Are links still important for SEO?
Do links still count as an important SEO-factor? Google have recently been trying to convince webmasters that links is not such an important factor anymore.
But is this really the truth? The short answer is: No!
Links are still a very important SEO-factor. More important that what Google want us to believe.
So why us Google saying this?
It is most likely an attempt to have you focus less on trying to “game” Google. But that’s not how the world and marketing works. We are ready to compete for visibility and so should you be. And to get that – to become more visible in Google, you do need links. That’s (still) a fact!

Websites with links from less than 100 unique external domains hardly rank for anything. In fact, out of the 9.337 websites in the study, only 0,4% had less than 50 links and om5% under 100.
So, the first goal of any website should be to get at least 100 links! That alone will set you apart from the many sites that have hardly any visibility in Google at all.
For many business with a local focus – such as restaurants, hairdressers, plumbers or carpenters 100 links may be enough to get decent rankings for local searches.
If you are trying to rank for more competitive keywords, on national og international markets you need more. But the 100 links goal is a good place to start.
